Snowfall in Meribel

Snowfall is on everyones minds and lips when it comes to the Alpine resorts, rest assured Meribel’s altitude and the 2000 snow cannons mean excellent conditions from early December through to season end.

We tend to think of snow around Christmas and February half term but in the Alps things just get thicker and deeper as the season progresses. Early ‘Spring’ snow showers can mean bumper snowfalls in late March and April. Late season guests are often the lucky ones with some of the best powder and blue sky days they’ve ever experienced.

You can trust GB Ski Club’s data taken over the last ten years:

A Self Catering Meribel season runs from Week 1 until Week 18.

The season starts in earnest in November/December thanks to the covering provided by the brilliant snow canons offering a solid base of approx. 75cm. Then, as you can see, snow builds up during the season eventually resulting in nearly 2m of snowfall on the upper slopes in the last week of March/ first week of April.

Aspect is everything when it comes to making the most of each day throughout the season, especially as the weather gets warmer. The Three Valleys positioning means North Face and South Face have their peak times, we recommend skiing on the sunny South facing slopes in the morning and moving over to the North facing slopes in the afternoon.
